Day 4: I am Thankful for a Washing Machine

The last 2 days I've been trying to get caught up on laundry. I told you it's been awhile. Even with a large capacity washer I'm doing 16 loads of laundry with all the clothes, towels and sheets and I hate laundry. I think it's my least favorite household chore, probably because there is so much of it and it's never ending. I've tried to do a load a day but that usually lasts a week before I fall behind so it piles up. I'd be okay if I didn't have to fold the clothes. Now that's the hard part. The clothes will sit in the basket for a week before I fold them and then they are so wrinkly I have to spary them with water and put them pack in the dryer for a bit, wasting even more electricity. So today I am thankful for my washer and dryer. When I was in Romania we had to wash all our clothes by hand and now that was a chore. The hardest part was trying to wring as much water out of the clothes so they would dry faster in the middle of winter. It was muddy on the sidewalks so trying to get the hem of my pants clean took so much time so I would wear the same pair of pants almost all week before I washed them. It totally cut down on the amount of clothes I had to wash. If I wasn't so sensitive to smells I would wear my clothes more than once but I can't stand it. I might wear a pair of jeans more than once but that's it. I don't allow the kids to wear their clothes more than once. They are just so sticky and filthy. Even their pajamas I have to wash every time. If I smell the hint of maple syrup or oatmeal on them I want to gag and they always drip on themselves. I know if I wasn't so particular I'd have way less laundry but it's one of my quirks so I should just quit complaining and get to folding. Once again, washing machine, I love you!

Laundry is my least favorite too. I never feel I accomplished something because it's never done, and it makes so much noise. I should be grateful I have a washer too. Saves money. I'll think of Romania next time I groan at the beast shaking with a full load.

I've been okay with laundry since Brazil when I washed by hand and was kicking myself for all the complaining I did at BYU when I had to walk "all the way" over to the laundromat with my baskets of laundry. It's always about keeping perspective huh!
