I ended up braving it and taking all 6 kids to the library for story time, since we always go every week, and I'm glad I did. Usually story time only lasts a half hour but today they had a guest storyteller and she read bug books for 50 minutes and afterwards the kids got to color a butterfly, cut it out and glue it onto a popsicle stick which when waved made the butterfly flap it's wings. Everyone enjoyed it except for Jax. He was done after about 10 minutes and then wandered around the library looking at books. He even asked the librarian if they had any Star Wars books and he helped Jax find one. We were at the library for an hour and a half. Since they were so good I took them to the DQ for a treat. I had a gift certificate that expired today. While the younger kids napped I was able to make my cupcakes and they were so yummy and they even looked nice, which rarely happens without Neil's help. I made these cupcakes. I love this blog. Each cupcake of her's I've tried is divine and she makes them absolutely stunning. I think I made myself sick with all the frosting I ate and I'm not a frosting person but this was good stuff. I made 100 of them and here's a picture of one of the ones that didn't make the cut to the funeral, not enough room on the platter.
I also took the kids to the splash pad. They just love it there and there's no getting them to leave. Luckily at 8 the water is turned off so I finally had them in the car by 8:30. I hate stopping kids' fun, especially when they're not messing up my house.
I still had one more DQ gift certificate so we waited in the drive through for 30 minutes to get 2 boxes of buster bars. Love them. The kids were starting to get obnoxious and in a closed space I was about to lose it and so I told them we're playing the quiet game and whoever talks or touches another person will not get a piece of pizza. We ate dinner before we left but after exerting so much energy they were starving. It worked and no one talked for 25 minutes. We just listened to the radio.
Tomorrow is Conner's last day of school and he has been working on this game for his teacher all week tweeking it and getting it just right. It's kind of like a Killer Bunnies game. He didn't get to finish it this afternoon so here it is almost 11pm and he's still working on it. I figure since it's the last day of school tomorrow I don't care if he's tired. I already told all the kids that everyone is taking a nap tomorrow.
At 10 o'clock tonight Mikey comes out of his room and says he's scared and that he hears a bunch of snakes outside. I tell him there's no snakes in his room and to go back to bed. He really looked scared so I went upstairs and the sound he was hearing was the sprinklers next door going off. His window was open so it was really loud. I tucked him in and he was okay. I thought that was pretty funny.
