Sports

We ended Spring Soccer in May just in time to start Baseball for Conner and Tball for Sam. I have to say I'm definitely not a sports mom. I think I'd enjoy it if I didn't have to solo it with all the kids to the games. Neil coached Conner's team and all of his games were at the same time as Sam's except for the last one so I was always at Sam's game trying to cheer him on while watching Lucy and Mikey who always wanted to go to the playground or throw a fit. It just wasn't fun. Sam really didn't get into it either. We signed him up for another year but that may be it. I never got to watch Conner until the last game. I must say he definitely improved. He's more of a defensive player than offensive so next year when they start playing positions I think he'll like it better. The thing about soccer that I hated is that with two kids playing it pretty much took up half our Saturday and Saturday is my run errands day and clean house day so those things didn't happen which was frustrating.

Once soccer ended baseball started up. The time commitment for baseball was worse. Every night Monday through Friday was either a game or practice. It ruined FHE and dinner most nights and Tuesdays with Neil having mutual I had to solo again. We just could never do anything as a family because it was always baseball. What was the worse is that so many games got rained out so tonight is our last baseball game finally. The season was supposed to be over June 9th. I wouldn't mind the time if either of my boys showed any promise of doing well in the sport but they are just not very athletic at this age and for this reason Neil wants to keep them in. They both enjoyed playing but Sam was there just to be a goofball. He never watched the ball and always tried to hold the bat upside down to hit the ball.

Sam did have the most amazing coach. She made it so fun for the boys and really tried to teach them skills.
Conner's coach was intense but still good. He took the game very seriously while Neil and I were come on it's just a game.

Once I gave Lucy a water bottle at the last two games and it kept her occupied and happy the whole game. If only I had learned that trick at the first of the season.

Sam and Mikey usually kept themselves busy climbing the trees at Conner's games. Another sour event was that Mikey broke his foot at Sam's tball game. We were sitting on the bleachers which were about as tall as my shoulder. Mikey and Conner started jumping off the edge of the bleachers and progressively getting higher. When they got to the one below the highest bleacher Neil told them to stop because they would get hurt. Conner stopped but Mikey kept taunting Neil. I was off with Lucy because she would not stop screaming. Finally Neil had had enough of Mikey and turned away to watch the game. At that instant Mikey jumped and when he hit the ground he started to scream. I think it was a little hard for Neil to have sympathy for him since he had not listened. Mikey refused to walk on his foot and so the next day I took him to the doctor and sure enough it was broken, right above his big toe on a growth plate. Luckily he did not have to get a cast but instead has been able to wear a boot, which stinks so bad now after 3 weeks. I'm ready for him to be done with it. We go back on July 6th to see if it's healed properly. I'm so thankful for the boot because I've been able to take it off for baths and to go swimming. As you can see from the above picture, it hasn't slowed him down in the least bit.

Lucy sure loved that cupcake at the end of season party.

The boys enjoyed the season and I guess that's all that matters.
