Kicking the Sugar Habit

When Mikey went to the doctor for his 4 year old check up his height was in the 33% and his weight was in the 88% so his BMI is higher than normal and the doctor asked me about his diet and I said he's my snacker and since it was the holidays we've had quite a few treats. She told me that I needed to get that stuff out of the house so it wasn't even an option. Anyone who knows or sees Mikey would say he was a little thick or solid but not overweight by any means. He's normal so her comment kind of bugged me but I knew she was just trying to help. I know we eat a lot of sweets. The kids were beginning to ask after every meal if they could have a treat and usually we'd say yes since there was so much in the house. Well I took the doctors words to heart and decided that the only treat we would have in our house would be for FHE. We were going to kick the sugar habit. The kids can eat any treats if we go someplace or that they get from school or church, we just wouldn't be making them anymore. The kids were so upset at first but two weeks later they don't even ask for anything and it is so refreshing. Lucy was totally addicted and we knew we needed to make some changes. I love the holidays but I dread them as well. I can't get over how many goodies we were given and they were all so good. Our diets have went downhill since Halloween so it is nice to be back on track. For any activity I almost always am asked to bring dessert so the blue and gold banquet is no different. We're doing a camping theme so I want to make a smores dessert and so I do need to try out a couple recipes to get just the right one so I made one on Wednesday and I told the kids they could try it and Conner exclaimed No, we're trying to break the sugar habit. I guess my next experiment we'll just have to give away. I also made a dessert for a funeral on Friday. I made cream puffs something I haven't made in forever and we each got two. So we're not totally there yet but it's sure a lot better. Tomorrow I'll make a smores treat again. It's been hard. I love my sweets, especially my chocolate so I've fudged a little but the kids don't know that.
