Sam the Speedster
I ran to Walmart first thing this morning to get Clementines for the YW and snow boots for Conner and a couple other things. Sam is getting to the age that he wants to walk in the store. I let him walk at the grocery store because it's small and he does pretty good, but never at Walmart, way to big for a kid to get lost, especially Sam. Since I planned on getting in and out fast I said sure let's give it a try. He did pretty good until he found a Thomas book then all he wanted to do was stand and read it. He wouldn't get in the cart so I had to keep prodding him to stay with Mommy. Of course, he stayed behind and I didn't notice and got lost. Of course I go into a silent panic. On the outside I'm calm but on the inside I'm about to have a panic attack. I throw Conner in the cart and start quickly running up and down aisles yelling Sammy. I have no luck and it seems like an eternity. I keep backtracking where we had been when all of sudden I see a blur of yellow and blue up ahead darting through an aisle with two Walmart employees chasing behind. I knew it was Sam so I ran and sure enough it was him and he just yelled Mommy and came running to me. The two workers were out of breath. They told me how they had tried to ask him if he was lost and to take his hand and he just took off yelling no my mommy. They couldn't keep up with him. They said at least he knows not to go with strangers. That's something I told him before we went into the store. I told him if he loses mommy to stay put and wait but not to go with anybody he didn't know. I had to laugh. Conner's new passion is fire extinguishers. He is fascinated by them and he found 4 at Walmart so between letting him look at every one and trying to find Sam by 20 minute shopping trip turned into an hour. At least we're all home safe and sound and warm having hot chocolate.

I have lost kids in Walmart before. Code Adam. That's what they say when a kid is missing. Once I was putting the cart in its little stall outside after loading my groceries and came back and Cindy was gone. I looked all over the parking lot and she had actually ran all the way back into the store and was lost the depths of Walmart. I know that panic feeling all too well. I lost Jared in Costco not to long ago come to think of it. Nightmare of my life.
