Trick or Treating

The boys have been so excited to go trick or treating so after voting Neil took the boys to a really cool park while I went to pick up a pumpkin pizza from Papa Murphy's since instead of making my own I took a much needed nap. The line was outrageous so it took longer than planned. We got home and cooked it but forgot about it as we were putting on costumes and the bottom got burned. We just left it and went to the church for trunk or treat. Not many people were there. We stayed 30 minutes and then went to about 8 houses in the neighborhood and the boys were done. They wanted to eat their treats. We went to Lilian's house last and she just loaded the kids up. Kept giving them handfuls and handfuls of candy. She said we never have many little ones around here. It reminded me of when I'd go trick or treating when I was little. The last house we'd go to were my parent's friends the Prindiville's whose children were all grown and gone and they would give us all their left over candy. We were so happy as were my boys tonight. Too bad I bought two huge bags of candy from Costco (400 pieces total) and we only have out probably 50. At the trunk or treat I only gave each person one a little out of selfishness and another because I didn't know how many treaters we'd get but since we went out as a family we missed all of them. Here I guess you have to stop trick or treatig at 8 pm. So I guess I'll just have to eat the other 350 pieces. Luckily I got candy I like.

I love those costumes- they are so cute. And you make the perfect Boo. Mikey's is perfect too. I didn't get the abbreviation for next year's theme. Give me a hint...

Heard of a good idea from a friend to help manage/cut down on all the sugar the kids get. Here it is from her blog:

"My friend Jill told me about one of their family traditions and D and I loved the idea so much we started it tonight. The Great Pumpkin is coming to our house tonight. Abby and Lex got to pick out 10 pieces of candy, from their trick or treating loot, to keep. The rest of the candy was left out on the front porch for The Great Pumpkin, after the kids went to bed. In return, The Great Pumpkin leaves a toy. I hope that the Great Pumpkin so going to help moderate the kids sugar in-take. Abby was two sided about The Great Pumpkin, but I think she is going to like what will be left on the door step."

Isn't that a great idea? Then they still get some candy but not all of it and instead receive a toy, something that won't ruin appetites, teeth, or attitudes. Once Jayden actually understands Halloween and we do it, I'm going to start this.

I was thinking of how much I miss you family, while trying to put in a zipper in my snow white costume. I'm glad you have a blog so I can keep in touch with you!

Cute costumes!!! Stop trick-or-treating at 8:00??? We had to turn our lights off at 8:00 because we ran out of candy and people still kept banging on our door until 9:00! Oh brother! But, we had a blast at our Trunk or Treat! I love your blog, Amy!
