The Step is Done

This is for my mom and dad who didn't think Neil and I would get anything done after they left. This seems like a little thing but here it is midnight and after about 2 1/2 hours of trying to figure out how to make it work we finally did and it looks great. The problem we had is that the laminate hits carpet that is going down the stairs. The stair nose only hangs over the step about 1/8" so I was so scared to cut the carpet because if we cut it too short we were up a creek. First we tried screwing the carpet down flush to the would since we didn't have a staple gun but the carpet was too plush the stair nose wouldn't fit so we had to cut the carpet exactly where the nose would end and we used contact cement to glue the carpet to the wood. We'd never heard of it but my dad left some with us. Anyway, with Neil's amazing measuring and cutting skills it looks so good. I am so proud of him. Continues to amaze me. To many you may be wondering what's the big deal. You haven't been here the last month and a half. The only problem is whenever we replace the carpet I don't know how we're ever going to get that carpet detached from the wood. It really is like cement.
