Sam's Hero Day
It's Sam's VIP week at school and so this morning he got to do a presentation at school. It's called Hero Day. First he shared a poster about himself to his class. These are the same kids he was with last year so they all know Sam pretty well already. After he talked about himself he gave a presentation about one of his heroes. He decided to do it on the creators of Lego, Ole Christiansen and his son Godtfred, since it is one of his favorite toys and he would definitely be bored without them. There is a great video on the Lego website about the creation of Legos that we shared with the class. I had no clue all the set backs (death, fires, shortage of money) the creator had but he persevered through the hard times and never gave up while demanding quality and came up with one of the best toys in history. Sam did it all by himself. I was pretty amazed. He just exudes confidence. Not cocky at all, just confidence in himself and the class respects him and each other. I think that's one of the huge bonuses of being with the same kids for 3 years. It was fun to see him take control of the class and ask questions and get answers just like a teacher. Sam is such a likable kid and just fun. I loved seeing him interact with his peers. At the end of his presentation we gave each table a bin of random Lego pieces and they each had 7 minutes to make a creation. The kids loved it. When his time was up it was indoor recess so Sam asked if everyone could continue playing with our Legos and of course we said yes and everyone cheered. I wish I had taken some pictures of him in action but I forgot the camera.
