Today was the day that the carpet was getting installed and I was so excited. We got up early and started clearing everything out of the room and then started ripping up the old carpet. There was so much sand. We vacuumed and swept so many times and we would still get sand.
Before we got new carpet, Neil let the kids draw all over the old carpet. I'm just hoping they don't make that mistake with the new stuff.
Our demolition crew. Everyone wanted in on the action. There was a lot to do and Neil was very patient with the kiddos and gave them direction. He really wants our kids to have as many experiences as possible when it comes to fixing things so they are not as clueless as we are.
Conner is teaching Eliza the ways of Minecraft and enjoying the new tile.
Once the carpet was in I almost began to cry, happy tears though. We have not had furniture in our family room for a year now as we hoped to get this project done. Really our lives have been in upheaval for the last year and this marked the beginning of getting things in order. Everything seemed perfect until we tried to open the patio door and found out it would not budge. The carpet was too plush and it prevented the door from opening so we have to fix that somehow. We also want to make an overmantle for the fireplace but I am not going to push it right now. I am just going to enjoy the moment. I love the room. It is beautiful. I still need to put things back up on the walls and eventually get some new couches. The red couches don't really go with the fireplace and the light and airy feeling I'm going for but they will have to do for now.

I understand the feeling. I've been living in a construction zone for 10 years. We just finished putting a floor in the boys' room so now they aren't walking on subfloor or random rugs anymore. it's so nice to see things come to completion.
