Christmas Eve

Christmas Eve we finally got around to making our candy houses.  This is always quite the production.  It took Neil a couple hours to assemble them with melted sugar.  Our neighbor had invited Lucy over earlier in the week to make one and she had just hot glued them together.  Easy peasy lemon squeezy but Neil would not hear of it.  It must be with melted sugar so it is edible, although no one ever eats the graham crackers.  One of these years I am going to make one out of real gingerbread like I had my students do when I taught.  That day will probably happen when I am an empty nester and hopefully have a little extra time on my hands.
Daddy's little helper.  Eliza just sat by daddy and watched and would often pick up the knife, freaking us all out.
This was Eliza's first time building a candy house.  Neil would place a dollop of frosting on her house and then she would put a little piece of candy on it and then she would clap her hands and do the happy dance.  Once showed her how to take a big gum drop and put a lollipop in it to make a "tree" she would do nothing else so she ended up with about 20 "trees".

We've been lucky to have both my parents and Ryan and Heather and their girls here for the holidays!  I was so happy to finally have a Christmas Eve party with family this year.  We usually spend it alone.  We went up to Allison's for the party.  We had taco soup and cornbread for dinner.

Our sweet Santa Babies!  We love having all these sweet girls together.
For entertaiment, we played some festive Minute to Win It games with the kids and then the Newlywed games with the adults (Neil and I won) and a simple white elephant.
 Hugs all around.
Then we had to go home and get ready for Santa to come.  The one day of the year the kids are so ready to go to bed.
