This morning I had to get up and be at a 7 am leadership training for the stake. It about killed me to get up at 6:15 but I made it on time. The topic discussed was on pornography. My first thought was that doesn't really apply to me. A counselor from LDS Marriage and Family Services presented. He gave a lot of statistics. Who knew that Utah has the highest rate of usage of Internet porn in the nation and that 90% of individuals 15 and younger have been exposed to hard core porn whether innocently or intentionally. There was a lot of facts but those are the two I remember. He talked about computers and how the new thing is with cell phones. It made me sick and I got so sad for my boys. Even if you don't want to view it, you usually end up unintentionally. It's already such a problem now what is it going to be like in 10 years or what's going to be the next epidemic. At the end, the stake president got up and asked if there was anyone who still felt like this didn't affect them and if so stop being so prideful basically. We're all in leadership positions and if we're not dealing it in our homes most likely there is someone we serve struggling with it and we have to be in tune with the spirit to know how to help. He told us that the best safeguard against this addiction is temple worship. We should go on a regular basis and as often as possible because we need the strength that comes from being in the house of the Lord.
We also got to attend the Oquirrah temple dedication. Luckily we swapped kids with another family so Neil and I could go together. Once again the impression came to go to the house of the Lord as often as feasible, every week if possible. For us in Utah, there is no excuse. I think there are 13 temples here now. I think part of the reason there are so many being built is so we can go more often because we need to. Neil and I feel like we have been doing pretty good on our temple attendance but we can do better and if the spiritual well being of my family depends on it it's totally worth any sacrifice it takes to make it there.
