It's a known fact that Halloween is our favorite holiday. It makes me so sad when people say they hate the holiday. Sure you have to over look the scary and gory stuff and the sugar over load. I just love all the family friendly activities their are and most of them are free. I love the pumpkins, hay rides, mazes, costumes, chocolate, booing, etc. It's all what you make of it. This year has been another stellar year. I actually finished our costumes on the 25th, a record and have been able to enjoy the week of Halloween.
Wow, now these costumes were quite the ordeal. The kids decided they wanted to be Mario characters this summer. I assumed we'd have a Mario, Luigi, Bowser and Princess Peach. That didn't seem too bad but all the boys wanted to be Koopas. No matter how much I persisted they insisted on koopas. There are no patterns for any of these characters so it meant I would have to design most of it myself and would make for a lot of trial and error. Being as I didn't want to disappoint and I wanted to keep my Super Mom front a little longer I got to work. I actually got all the fabric the first of September with plans to be done with costumes the 1st of October but I actually didn't start until the 1st of October. I sewed almost every day during naps and once the kids were in bed until midnight or later and all day on Saturdays. I seriously put in over 150 hours on these costumes and I think it was worth it. Neil became the sewing widow. The house went to pot, our meals became mediocre and the laundry was sky high, I lost my milk supply (slowly coming back as I get more sleep) and I got sick. I am just so happy I finished and they got to wear them a lot. I told them next year we're going to be ghosts. With no further ado her is our Mario Party!
I went a little overboard and made them each a Halloween bag for their candy with a power up on it.
Larry Koopa Jr.
Princess Peach
Bowser
Morton Koopa
Toadette
It's all in the details. 30 shell spikes hand sewn on, 50 silver spikes on writs and 3 bags of stuffing later. I actually used their pillows for the shells which will make them easier to store and I jut couldn't see buying 3 more bags of fiberfill.
Syracuse Pumpkin Walk--this is always fun to go to and see all the amazing carved pumpkins.
Mikey's School Carnival--Mikey was so excited to show his school off to his brothers.
The cutest pumpkin you'll ever see.
Tri-Ward Trunk or Treat--It was so crazy with so many people but it was so fun to see so many of our old friends in the other wards.
Candy creatures
Carving Pumpkins--I didn't think we'd get around to carving pumpkins but the kids would not let it go so Tuesday was the only night to do it but Neil wasn't going to be home. I usually hate carving pumpkins because I'm not good at it but because I had to be I loved it. Conner did a triple face pumpkin and Sammy did a quadruple faced pumpkin. I thought Eliza's turned out cute. I only gave her one tooth on top but when I was done I realized I should have given her just two on the bottom because that's all she has.
I don't know if the kids are going to be able to sleep tonight they are so excited for tomorrow and all the candy it will bring!
