Success Finally
Oh my goodness I am ecstatic. After trying for months to get Eliza to take a bottle she finally did. We got home from running errands and she was hungry so I first tried to give her some bananas. She didn't want them. She kept turning her head but I kept putting little amounts in her mouth. She would not swallow and eventually she had too much and it would all come running down her chin. Being mixed with lots of saliva, it was pretty gross. I kept trying but no go. Next I gave her a Ritz cracker. She immediately grabbed it and put it in her mouth and sucked it. I was thinking this is it. She kept sucking until a piece broke off in her mouth and then she would gag and try to get it off her tongue with her hands. Sheesh. I was really thinking I had finally found something she would eat. Still no. I decided I'd try a bottle again. Maybe she didn't like the formula or juice so I pumped a little and tried to give it to her. She just kept chewing on the nipple like she always does but being as it contained liquid gold I was very persistent and after a long struggle she began to suck a little and then a little more until it was a continuous suck. I was so giddy I called Neil to tell him the good news. I had succeeded with breast milk and so I decided I was going to press my luck and try some formula. She drank that as well. I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off my shoulders. I'll try again tonight and hopefully she won't have forgotten how it's done. Mikey and Lucy were so happy as well. Mikey has diligently prayed that she would take a bottle so I am glad his prayer and mine have been answered and he was there to witness the first time.
