I just want to quickly record a few events Conner shared with me today. First off he played tether ball with a 5th grade girl today at lunch recess. He was beating her and so her friends started to tease and make fun of her for letting a 2nd grader beat her and Conner stood up to them and told them that they were not being nice or respectful and besides the girl was just playing easy on me. What a nice thing to do. At this time in his life I don't worry about him following the crowd. He is definitely his own person and is content and confident with himself. That may all change in a couple of years but for now I'm lucky.
When he got home from school he wanted to use a check mark to play on the computer but I told him that he had to do his chores, homework and piano first. This upset him for awhile but then he just went to work and was very diligent with his chores, emptying the dishwasher without me asking and doing his homework while the other kids played with friends. When I thanked him for doing such a great job he told me how he's trying to apply some principles in his life that the school counselor is teaching his class. There's 7 habits and the two that he focused on today were doing first things first and being proactive. When I asked him to explain them to me he said doing first things first is just doing what needs to be done or what's most important like his chores and homework and then the other was taking control of the situation and not allowing the situation to take control of you so when he got upset he was allowing the situation to control him so he turned the tables and was in charge.
My Conner is such a good kid and such a deep thinker. He just gets stuff that I can't even comprehend. He is so patient and kind. He was in charge of the FHE lesson a couple of weeks ago and decided he wanted to teach everyone the Articles of Faith 1-4. He did such a good job teaching and explaining. He never lost his cool with Mikey or Lucy and gave us all a lot of praise. Sam and Mikey were really listening and obeying him. He is so humble and is genuinely concerned with helping others understand whatever it is he is teaching. I know I say it all the time but I am just amazed at my Conner. He has been blessed with so many wonderful attributes.

Since our Conner's are so close in age, posts like this FLOOR me! What a great kid! MY Conner needs to learn a thing or two (or ten!) from your Conner.
I agree, totally amazing that he was able to look at his behavior from the outside and change it, and on top of that to apply some of the 7 habits, he is a GREAT kid. And I also loved his confidence in talking to the older kids, my kids need some of that self-assurance
