New Year's Resolution
At Neil's work they have health challenges every 2 months and if you make the goal you get a monetary reward. It's not a lot but it's extra, practically free money and this year the spouses are able to get in on the action so I was so excited to start. The goal for the next 2 months is to exercise 30 minutes 5 times a week and to eliminate sugar (desserts, candy, soft drinks, etc.) from diet and replace with water and fruit. I know what you're thinking, Amy and physical activity ain't going to happen but I've got the exercising down. We have a treadmill and an exercise bike. The great thing is if I prop the computer up on the ironing board I can be on the computer and type or read so I'm not "wasting" any of my time. Now I thought I could do this sweet thing but I'm struggling. It's like torture for someone who generally eats 10 sweets a day to go to none. I'm really going crazy. I must be going through withdrawals like an addicted person does. I just crave sweets especially chocolate. You have to meet the goal 80% of the time so that means I can eat something sweet almost twice a week so definitely Monday I'll get a treat for FHE. It's only 4 days and I've eaten sweets 3 of the 4 days. For Christmas I made a cheesecake that had brownie, white and milk chocolate chips, Snickers and caramel in it, so stinkin' good and it was just calling my name so I had to pull a piece out of the freezer and talked Neil into joining me (I'm as bad as Eve). We really enjoyed it but the next day Neil was like that was pretty dumb. We need to plan what days we can eat sweets and then eat them all day long instead of just one thing. So on Monday we eat sweets so we stayed up until 12:00 am Monday morning and just downed the best chocolates that Jared and Jerusha gave us. We ate almost the whole box with some Sprite. I've been debating what to make for FHE treats because it's got to be good and I can't make too much because I can't have leftovers and I want to make it early on in the day so I can enjoy it all day. Okay am I sounding a little obsessed having to plan my sweets out. I love sweets but I know I eat way too many and I've caused my kids to eat way too much. They like sweets as much as I do. So I think this is a good thing and by the end of the month I'll be fine.

Amy-I want to hear what you ended up making for FHE. Tonight we had Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake. I'm pretty sure I could feel the fat increasing on my stomach. So, I guess I might try and use your idea of setting the laptop up in front of the exersize equipment. Talk to you soon!
I'm right there with ya Ames. Trying to give up sugar and workout every day. The Merrell family is getting a makeover! My whole family is having a contest. But I'm like you- gotta have my sweets to stay sane. We'll see how this all plays out- hopefully no one gets hurt!
Amy, you are so funny! I read these to myself and then I tell Jared he has to hear it. Eve...that is hilarious!
Good luck Amy! That would be a challenge for me. When are you coming down to visit me?
That's actually not a bad idea as a diet. One day a week go wild, rest of the week E-N-D-U-R-E!
I'd try it, but Mom and I are trying a biggest loser together. I made fun money for us to put in a jar when we exercise 20 minutes a day and other bills for weight loss or gain. Mom came up with it. Why pay a gym to get in shape when I can pay myself?
You can do it! The reward better be good! (lol)
