This is where it all started 10 years ago on July 3rd. I was sitting on this wall listening to a Ryan Shupe concert and Neil walked by and asked me to watch his bag so he could go up closer and listen and when he came back we started talking and the rest is history. I happened to be down at BYU for a conference this summer and Neil had meetings at MPS so he met me for my lunch break so we had to take a little stroll down memory lane. When we came to this spot he stopped and wanted to get a picture but there were a ton of EFY kids lounging around but Neil didn't care. He went up to them and proceeded to tell them our story about this is the exact spot where we met 10 years ago and if they could take a picture. The girls were just gushing over how cute and sweet or story was and I was completely embarrased but at least we got our picture.
Ten years is quite the milestone which caused a lot of tension between us. Neil wanted to celebrate by going on a big trip to Hawaii or New York but I knew it just wasn't in the budget. Sure we could have taken it out of savings but I'll only touch that if it's an emergency and this was not an emergency. I kept telling him isn't the most important thing that we just get to spend some quality time together without the kids and I won. I would have loved to go on a trip but as most other times in our lives there just hasn't been any extra money. Will that ever change? Well we decided we'd each choose a place to eat at and then we'd go to Lagoon for the day. It's the only time we went just the two of us the whole season and it was so much fun. I chose to eat at Olive Garden for lunch and we had the soup and salad. I just can't get enough of that place. I love the Zuppa Toscana. We took our time eating because I had brought along these two books.

They are full of questions about your spouse. We'd answer 5 of the questions on a post it note and then share and discuss our answers. Some of the questions are silly and others serious. It was fun to see how well, or not so well we know each other after 10 years. We answered about 15 at Olive Garden and did a couple more throughout the day. We didn't come close to finishing the book and so it has been stored away for another date night. Neil got me a sweet card with a the first of 10 promises he hopes to keep throughout the coming years. Throughout the night he'd hand me another one on the hour. Here are a couple of them: Write 10 love songs for you before our 15th anniversary. Hide peanut M&M's for you regularly (I hate it when the kids find them and then I have to share). Do something on the "honey do" list every week. Read Jane Austen novels, some of my favorite books.
We next made our way to Lagoon and were able to ride all the rides we wanted and none of the ones we didn't want to. It was so stinking hot that we went to the water park to cool off. Allison had given me a Brazilian blowout a couple days before so even though I couldn't blow dry my hair it still looked pretty decent air drying when we went to dinner at Brick Oven. We both had wanted to eat there since one opened up in Layton. It reminds us of our good old college days down in Provo. We were both still pretty stuffed from lunch but still ate a ton and were sick to our stomaches. After dinner we made our way home. We had such a fun time together and it just goes to show you don't have to spend a lot of money to rekindle the romance. All it takes is just some time without the kids, which we don't get enough of.
I can't believe it's been ten years. Time sure does fly. If eternity is anything like the last ten years I can't wait!
