This year for Thanksgiving I was so thankful to be invited to the Smarts to celebrate. I was just not up to cooking a big meal and had no desire. All I was asked to bring was some cookies and sweet potato souffle.
We brought the tv upstairs to watch the parade as we got ready for the day.
The kids helping me decorate our turkey sugar cookies, a tradition.
Lucy was the die hard decorator and was with me til the end. I love having this little girl beside me.
Since we weren't busy cooking all morning, we were able to enjoy our day. Neil pulled out the ping pong table and went head to head with each of the kids.
The Smarts were gracious enough to have all the Utah Hibberts at their house and Jared made all the food. It was so good and so much of it. I filled up on all the delicious appetizers and didn't have enough room to go back for seconds. That is unheard of on Thanksgiving.
The big kids table.
The little kids table.
I just wanted to get a picture of Lucy in he cute Thanksgiving outfit.
I think a highlight of the night was watching Sam make baby Taden laugh with the light saber. I would have thought after a minute or so Taden would get sick of Sam but he just kept giggling. It was so cute.
The Smarts and Grandma Hibbert were nice enough to watch the kids so Neil and I could do a little Black Friday shopping at Walmart. We got everything we wanted and was in and out in 30 minutes. It was awesome. I hadn't planned on going out in the morning but I couldn't sleep so 4 am I am at the stores. Between Black Friday and amazon I was able to get most of my Christmas shopping done before December hit. It really fet good.
Neil pulled out the Christmas bins the day after Thanksgiving and got decorating. It took us 3 days but it was all done and we have been able to enjoy it for 6 weeks. I hate to take it down because then my house looks so bare. I have a ton of holiday decorations but not everyday decor. I just don't know what my style is.
We have had this tree for 5 Christmases and last year the middle section would not come on and we just lived with it. We paid full price for it and needed it to last 10 years to get our money out of it. Last year I bought this little repair gun. With that, replacing 200 bulbs and 6 hours later Neil had it all working. What a pain but he was determined and patient. What a guy! It is such a beautiful tree when it is all decorated.
Putting Grandpa Bahrs train around the tree is one of the most anticipated events. Neil cleaned the tracks and wheels with steel wool and it ran like a charm. It much be 40+ years old.
Neil got out all of "his" legos and the Christmas display instructions and we all went to town putting them together. The kids liked it but it took forever to sort through all those pieces.
I loved how the kids got in the Christmas spirit. They locked themselves in the study for hours making presents for Neil and I and each other and their cousins. They were mostly pictures or coupons but so sweet. They used a whole roll of wrapping paper wrapping their creations under the tree.
