Girlfriend?

Yesterday Sam came home from kindergarten and was excited to tell me he had made a new friend in his class and her name was Mckinley and she was a girl and thus his girlfriend. In our family we have never stressed liking girls or having girlfriends. I don't even tease about it. I think they are too young. I don't think a kid needs that pressure. Our society is so sex driven I don't want it starting when they are 5. Anyway, off my soap box, today Jeri volunteered in Sam's class and I watched her baby. When she dropped Sam off she told Sam to tell me about Mckinley and all he said is she's my friend. When he went in the other room Jeri told me they were holding hands all during centers. What? I'm not sure how I feel about this? I definitely don't like it so I ask Sam about it and he says they were holding hands because it was fun and that way they can always be together. Oh brother. I reminded him about the class rule of keeping hands to oneself and told him not to do it anymore. Maybe I'm being a little paranoid but oh well. Sam is definitely the one I've got to keep tabs on. He's the "why" kid and lately has been pretty defiant about his why's. Isn't parenting fun.

Lol. As the observer, it's just funny. If it were my kid I don't know how I'd feel about it either.

I remember hearing something from Dr. Phil once (I don't remember it very well!), something about being careful about how we react as parents because if we freak out it will make our kids more curious about whatever made us freak out. Something like that, so ya, I'm always trying to be real careful with how I react.
