Scripture Power

We have tried several things for family scripture study. First was the scripture readers but the pictures were too small and too many words and for some reason the boys just were too distracted. We then would watch the readers online and that was better. Next we let the boys pick a picture from the gospel art kit and we would tell them the story. That worked the best. Lastly we rolled a die and each number stood for a different way to study the scriptures. #1 was scripture reader, #2 was a picture, #3 was a song, #4 was an article of faith, #5 was a children's book with scripture stories in it and #6 was the roller's choice. This was fun and the boys really liked the variety. During conference the part where Elder Bednar talked about reading the Book of Mormon in your families and how even an infant can feel the spirit that comes from the book, it hit me hard. We need the blessings that he promised. We have tried everything but actually reading from the book itself because we thought the boys weren't old enough so we tried it last night and it was amazing. We bought each of the boys their own Book of Mormon and Conner began by reading the first verse, I Nephi having been born of goodly parents . . . all by himself. Of course we were amazed. We each read a verse and we stopped and talked about what we learned. Sam and Conner were so into it. Sam was a little sad that he couldn't read it by himself though. A little while later Conner asked me Mommy how do you study the scriptures so I explained it's what we just did and he said he was going to study his scriptures every day. He always hears Neil and I saying just a minute I need to finish studying my scriptures before we can play but he never quite got what that meant. Last night as he was going to bed he said he wanted to study his scriptures some more but what if he needed help with a word. He's sitting beside me right now reading his own little Book of Mormon. He told me he wanted to study for 30 minutes and it's already been about 15. Where did this kid come from? He just loves to learn and obey. I am so grateful and just hope and pray he will continue in this way all his days.

that is awesome. Reuben and Patrick just got their very own copy of the BOM too, the little pocket size ones and they are just loving it!!

That's fantastic! What'd Mikey do with his book?

Seriously - where did that kid come from? Amazing. How nice he can be an example to the others. You are such great parents.

That just makes us feel so good inside knowing that this is happening in your family. Way to be great parents and teaching by example. Keep it up!

ps. you should submit that to the Ensign - I bet a lot of other families out there need to hear this.
